Public libraries have always been a high priority service for communities and City governments. In 1992, the main Menlo Park Library building was expanded and refurbished through a $5 million bond issue. The Belle Haven Branch serves today as both a community and a school library.
Cities throughout California are finding it increasingly difficult to grow library services. Only 81% of the Library’s annual budget comes from city general funds, the remainder is from grants, the Friends of the Library, private gifts and donations, and other sources.
Over 17,000 individuals have a Menlo Park Library Card. Over 171,000 books, DVDs, CDs, and other materials are available for use at the Menlo Park Library. Menlo Park librarians answer over 170 reference questions a day. Average internet usage is 10,000 connections per month. Children attended over 1860 storytimes and programs sponsored by the Library last year. With the exception of holidays, the Library is open seven days a week.
The Foundation will help the Menlo Park Library keep pace
with our community’s increasing needs.
